Little Bear Plays Catch Up…Part 2!

… continued from here.

After my fun and games in the USA with Scooter and his family (thank you again!!), I was home with my family for about a week before I headed off interstate to Canberra, ACT to visit my cousins Precious and Janalli and my Aunty Jessi as she was taking me along with her to something called Pridoc2016 which was being held in New Zealand this time.

New Zealand is an amazing place!! This is my second visit here and again I am visiting with my Aunty Jessi who was the host who brought me along with her the 1st time I got to visit New Zealand.   There is always so much to see here, but this time it was for a conference so I made sure I was on my best behaviour…

Especially during the big social night where all the cultures who were attending the conference were all on display and I even met two other traveling plushies that were attending also, so that was an even better experience!  Thank you Aunty Jessi for letting me come along with you on this one, I really look forward to the next one in 2018 which is being held in Hawaii! This bear is totally packing his board shorts for that one!

Back home again and it was a fun time with the family celebrating Christmas, New Years and of course Australia Day!

So that has pretty much caught me up as to what I’ve been doing.  I’m now off and on my way interstate once again, this time to Darwin, NT to once again visit Aunty Jessi and my cousins Janalli and Precious in their new home up there.   I’ll be there for most of April so please keep an eye on my Instagram and my twitter for photos of my adventures.

Until I return, have fun and keep smiling, I know I am!

Little Bear Plays Catch Up…Part 1

I am so so so sorry for getting behind in my posts to you all here.  I am very very ashamed of myself and will do my very best to catch you all up on what I have been doing since I last posted here about my last trip to Washington with my great little plushie friend Ajdin.

So after a bit of time back at home with the family after my fantastic tour with Ajdin I once again packed my bag and headed back to Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina to visit our great mate Scooter Wojack and his family again for a few months.   It was amazing there as always as Scooter, his Mum Bj and the rest of his family are so much fun to be around and live in an amazing town.

While I was with them we had to do a bit of prep as they were on Hurricane watch so we all pitched in as best we could to make the lower levels of the house as water tight as possible, that was an interesting experience but once the work was done and the Hurricane came and went we all had fun once again exploring the beaches and the other wicked places this town has to offer.

Never a dull moment that’s for sure and another amazing experience I got to have with Scooter and his family was the chance to go to my very 1st Anthrocon which was one of the most fantastic events I have ever been too.  Everyone was so accepting, so exicting and was having so much fun there.

As well the fact the furries there looked amazing and gave the best hugs!   It’s so much fun, if you ever have an opportunity to go to one of these things, take it!!
There was so many more adventures that I got up to with Scooter while I was over there but you can see those photos over on my Facebook page because if I try and put it all in an entry here this would just go on and on and on…..and this is only supposed to be a catch up!

An Ozzie in Washington DC.

After an amazing trip to North Carolina still flashing memory photos in my head and my new travel buddy Scooter Wojack with me I made my way to my next destination and host, fellow Teddy Blogger Ajdin Adilovic! He’d arranged for me to come visit a while ago but it was just pure excellent timing that during my stay I’d have the chance, along with Scooter to be a VIB (Very Important Bear) and be included on the 1st ever Cherry Blossom Tour in Washington DC run by Ajdin’s brand new business called Stuffie Tours which was very exciting!

Thanks to USPS again Scooter and I arrived JUST in time!   Arriving the day before the tour left for Washington DC, Ajdin welcomed both Scooter and I into his lovely home, introduced us to his amazing family and also introduced us to Sandy Bear who is another bear-blogger!

The next morning the excitement began!   We made our way to the station to wait for a Metro train to take us from Ajdin’s hometown into Washington DC.   I was a very excited little bear….Washington DC, was a place I’d only ever seen on TV or in the movies so be going to this place was thrilling for me…and by train, that was another thrill for me as rail travel is not something I get a chance to do.

WDCST Trip 1

1. Introductions.    2. Waiting for the Metro.    3. Vietnam War Memorial.    4. Abraham Lincoln Monument.

On the train our tour guide Ajdin did a wonderful job explaining the map to me as we travelled along and then once we arrived it was a quick stop in at an info-booth for some maps, a photo op (you can see that over on my facebook in the Trip to visit Ajdin Album ) and a regroup we headed to our 1st place of interest which was the Vietnam War Memorial.  So many names on there….so many names.    We spent a lot of time reading and paying our respects before heading off to the next place of interest.

The Abraham Lincoln Memorial…what can I say!  Wow!  That pretty much sums it up for me.   I’d seen it many a time pictured in movies, cartoons etc on the TV and it did look big but I didn’t realise how big it really was till I had the chance to go up those stairs and look inside at the statue of the seated Abraham Lincoln myself!

WDCST Trip 2

1. Abraham Lincoln Memorial.    2. Reflection Pool.    3. Korean War Memorial.    4. Martin Luther King Jr Memorial.

After staring in awe at the shear size of this amazing monument Ajdin poked me in the ribs and bought me back to reality so we could all wander back down the stairs (through all the human tourists – we were the only stuffies) and head to the reflecting pool where we were very lucky enough to get a chance to get a great group photo near it’s waters.    Thanks to Mum liking the movie Forest Gump for a few moments there I kept expecting a hippie girl to come wading through the waters yelling out “Forest!!”  Thanks for that Mum!

If I didn’t feel small (and yes for me I know that is not hard as I am a small bear) inside the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, I sure did feel tiny when we visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial!   That is both impressive in it’s construction and it’s size!  I currently don’t know a lot about Martin Luther King, Jr. but I will be doing some more research on him to learn about him once I get this post up.
From Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial we viewed the well done Korean War monument.  I liked the way they made the statues of the soldiers in the bushes like that.   Very respectful I thought.

WDCST Trip 3

1. Cherry Blossoms.    2. At the World War II Memorial.    3. The White House!    4. Group Photo time!

The Cherry Blossoms….they were next and simply amazing.   Something about Cherry Blossoms make the place seem magical when they’re flowing don’t you think?    Another point of interest we visited during our Day in Washington DC was the World War II Memorial.   Another beautifully designed memorial and a wonderful place to pay respects to those who fought and who lost their lives.

Then I saw it….we got as close as we could to it…it was really it!   The ACTUAL White House!  Where the president of the United States and his family live.   It’s a shame we couldn’t get right up close but I can understand they are strict on security and I didn’t have my Pawsport with me for ID so I was more then happy seeing it from here!

It was a fantastic tour and after several more days spending time with Ajdin, his family, Scooter and Sandy it was time for this little bear to pack his borrowed bag and head back home to Australia and his family….  Took the chance to get one more awesome group photo with everyone though…Ajdin’s Uncle Tibbs is the biggest bear I have ever met so far, he’s awesome!

Thanks again Ajdin I had an amazing time on the 1st ever Stuffie Tour and I TOTALLY recommend this tour to ANY fellow Stuffie travellers!!   I’m of to spend some time with my family now before my next big adventure coming in June.

Take care and keep smiling everyone! xox

Kill Devil Hills!!

Yes this place actually exists and can be found in North Carolina where I had the privilege to visit and be hosted by a great Marmot friend and fellow world traveller and his Family – Scooter Wojack.

The original plan was to arrive in time to go along on a trip to Puerto Rico with them but thanks to a teeny hiccup (thanks usps for that) I missed out but Scooter’s work colleagues at the KDH post office looked after me and kept me entertained till they returned and I can kick off my adventures with them.

KDH Trip 1

1. First meet up with Scooter and enjoying the Sunlight.  2. Making some new froggy friends in the car.   3. Watching as Scooter opens his birthday present from myself and my bear-siblings Benaud, Hicks and Chloe.  4. Awesome saying on this sign that I had to have a photo with!

Scooter and his Mum and his family were wonderful hosts and showed me a wonderful time and the many different sites around the town with the AWESOME name.   They were right near a beach also which was wonderful to smell sea salt in the air again.

Another big surprise was that I found out was that KDH is the home of the Monster Jam truck Grave Digger…which happens to be my brother-bear Benni’s FAVOURITE truck in Monster Jam.  Once we found that out the awesome Marmot Family swung into actions!!

KDH Trip 2

1. A line of Grave Diggers from eldest to more recent.   2.  The driver of Monster Jam Truck Son-Uva Digger Ryan Anderson.   3. The man himself Dennis Anderson, driver of Grave Digger!   4. Next to another Grave Digger Truck in the yard of the Diggers Dungeon!

Wow!  I got to go to the HQ of Grave Digger!!  Benni would have been turning as green as my jumper in envy when he found out but the best surprise was still to come.  I was spending the day with Scooters sister Olivia this day and I had a chance to meet and get a photo taken with Ryan Anderson, he drives the truck Son-Uva Digger in Monster Jam.  I was so thankful he took a few moments out of his time getting ready to go to the next Monster Jam competition in Texas at the time to have a photo with me.   I was almost…almost stuck silent.

But then I was star-struck speechless!   Dennis Anderson, the driver of Grave Digger himself had arrived and he even signed a small plush Grave Digger truck toy for me so I could bring that home as a late Birthday gift for Benaud.   It was amazing…these guys are so great!!    If your a Monster Truck fan and you’re EVER in KDH, take the chance to visit Diggers Dungeon totally go as there is a lot to see there!

KDH Trip 3

I didn’t spend ALL my time staring at Monster Trucks during my visit.  I got to go on a few mini road trips with Scooter and his Mum Bj, to some surrounding towns, even got to visit a nearby Build-a-Bear Workshop, those places are FUN!    I also enjoyed seeing a lot of the amazing art all around KDH.   Everywhere you turn there is always something to look at, and in the case of one BBQ sign, giggle at!

Thank you again Scooter for letting me come and visit you and your family and see where you live.   I had an amazing time and a lot of fun…I was sad when my time came to an end but I had to head to my next adventure.        But I wasn’t going alone….I was going on my next adventure and I was taking Scooter with me!    So stay tuned for the next entry, coming hopefully very soon.

But before I sign off I want to leave you with this photo:

6543_1678800375706761_8887853242467318205_n

My brother-bear Benaud (Benni) who was totally SMITTEN when he received the signed plushie Grave Digger Truck!   He wouldn’t put it down for DAYS until Mum rescued it from his paws and has put it in the display cabinet for safe keeping so the signature doesn’t get worn off!

Wedding Bells in the Grampians

I’ve just had an amazing weekend this weekend.  The family and I got a chance to spend a night in the beautiful Halls Gap in the Grampians, Victoria.   A favourite place to visit for not only my family and I but for a lot of visitors to the north west of our state.  And no it’s not my fave place because of Coolas Ice Creamery but that certainly is a draw card for my family and me.

No this weekend Mum, Dad, Nanna and I were invited to go to a friends wedding on Saturday in Halls Gap so to save having to drive back to Horsham at stupid O’clock in the morning we got motel rooms at the Pinnacle Holiday Lodge for the night.  Nanna had room 12 and Mum, Dad, my siblings Sheedie, Benaud, Hicks and Chloe and visiting friend Jasper had lucky number 13.

The wedding wasn’t until 4pm so once we had checked in we had a bit of time to relax and put our paws/feet up and Nanna even bought in some tasty TimTams and doughnuts for snacks.

I think I shall lay right here....What's wrong Sheedie? Why do you want me to move??

Hicks, Chloe and Benaud got spoilt with doughnuts.

Pretty soon it was nearly 3pm before we knew it so everyone was getting ready and it was a quick rush out the door because even though the wedding didn’t start until 4pm, Nanna had to drop some flowers off for the bridal party and Dad needed to find a nice shady place at the Grampians Pioneer Cottages which was the area the ceremony was going to be held as it has an amazing backdrop of the mountains in the background which makes for great photos.

The Ceremony was lovely and included a Traditional Celtic Handfasting which was performed by Licensed Celebrant and Priestess…(not to mention very good friend of Mum) Lauren Kay from Handfastings and Medieval Weddings which was beautifully done.

After the ceremony and while the bridal party was getting the photos taken we had a chance to head back to the motel room for a quick rest, change of clothes and a drink of water before heading around to the Reception which was being held at the Quarry Restaurant which luckily enough was a very quick walk from our rooms so no more driving needed!

It was a lot of Fun and I got to meet a lot of people, got lots of cuddles from the Bridesmaids (YAY!) and ate some amazingly tasting Wedding cake.  I even got to meet some wonderful people Mum went to High school with and hasn’t seen since ’98 when she left the Northern Territory so that was pretty pawesome also!

It was a great day topped of by a wonderful night and we had a lovely time and were tired by the time we made it back to our hotel room.  Jasper had already passed out and gone to bed early with Nanna.

Our room was very nice, we’ll be very happy to stay there again and will be requesting room 13 again if we do get the chance to stay in Halls Gap over night even if the bed was a little bit like sleeping on a hard plank but Mum says she has something that she can lay on top of it next time and make it more comfortable.   But with that being the only niggle we do totally recommend the Pinnacle for a place to stay.

We all wish the bride and groom the very best wishes for their future together and thank you for inviting this little travelling bear and visiting friend Jasper along to share in your special day!   I had a blast!!

My Great Big Adventure – Galapagous Islands and Peru Trip.

I have had the most amazing adventure to date! It was the longest I had ever been away from my family though which took a bit to get used to but my host Kristina was wonderful and took me to some amazing places!

I left home on the 17th June 2015 and travelled the usual Econo-bear style, (which Mum tracked like a hawk online to make sure I arrived safely as usual), to Saint Joseph, Minnesota in USA. I got to spend the 4th of July with Kris and her friends and had a lot of fun there as well as exploring around her home town.

Well there should be a photo of that time spent in Minnesota to go here….but sheepishly I left my flash drive back in the states at my Hosts place when I packed to come home so I’m waiting for that to find it’s way home before I can share those photos with everyone. Opps.

Mid July and most of August was really amazing though.  We spent many weeks with some of Kristina’s students in the amazing Galapagos Islands.  It’s truly amazing there and if you ever get a chance to visit there on your own take it!!   Kristina and the students spent a lot of time hiking, viewing and documenting a lot of the amazing wildlife that live there.  I assisted as much as I was able to but when it came to the sharks and snorkling off the coast I stayed in the safety of the boat.   Yeah I still haven’t learnt how to swim yet and there wasn’t a little see through waterproof bubble I could sit in and go under the water with them in so safer to stay on the boat.

Photos 1 to 4 - From the amazing Galapagos Islands Photos 5 to 8 - At Machu Picchu in Peru!

Photos 1 to 4 – From the amazing Galapagos Islands
Photos 5 to 8 – At Machu Picchu in Peru!

It was sad when our weeks in the island came to a close, I was so going to miss those gigantic Tortoises and not to mention the awesome view from our patio of the apartments we were staying in.   But I was also excited at the same time as I was being taken to a place that I only ever had known through a cartoon that was shown on the TV channel (here in Australia) called NITV, the cartoon was called the Mysterious Cities of Gold and Mum remembers watching it when she was a child in the 80’s.

But here I was looking down at the amazing site of Machu Picchu!  It was fantastic, the place is amazing to look around and very popular it seems as there was a lot of other people there checking the place out also.

After Machu Picchu we also visited an amazing crystal clear Lake called Laguna 69.  (photo number 5 in the mosaic) The water is so blue and clear all you wanted to do is dive in and go for a swim…if it wasn’t so cold and the edges so steep….oh and the slight fact again I still don’t know how to swim.

I could go on and about the water in there and the beautiful sites Machu Picchu has but I also want to add the people in Peru are amazing, the foods are something to tantalise the tastebuds and the culture is so bright and colourful I would love the chance to go back again one day.   Definatly add these areas to your “Must See” list if you have one!

Well that’s about it from me for now until my flash drive comes home.  Then I can share a few more photos with you all.

Until then I have a few things to look forward too…I’m going to wedding on the 17th October with my HP’s and our friend Jasper (who’s currently staying with us until New Years) and then of course the annual Quirkybear Halloween Party on the 31st October!  This is going to be so much fun!!!      Have you go your Halloween plans sorted out yet at all?

10 Common Misconceptions About Teddy Bears

I’ve just headed out on my next adventure but I wanted to leave this amazing blog entry with you all! Happy reading and I’ll see you all when I get back in a few months! xxx

neverimitate

1. Teddy Bears are inanimate objects.

311406_264010936952012_3951491_n

I cannot believe how many people seem to think that teddy bears do not have feelings. Have you ever looked into the face of a teddy bear? Your furry friend will be as alive as you need him to be. Just like magic and dragons, if you believe then it will happen.

2. Teddy Bears are just for children.

298539_268018779884561_130004_n (1)

Of course, a child will benefit greatly from having his or her own bear, but so will an adult. Teddy bears listen to your problems and do not judge; they are always there to offer a hug; they do not get huffy when ignored for long periods of time. Basically? They are the ideal companion at any age.

3. Taking a Teddy Bear out in public is embarrassing.

1006150_634975049855597_77575281_n

No. Children are embarrassing. They say what they think to total strangers, throw up wherever they happen to…

Vegemite: Now in Chocolate Form!!

I was reading a post over on Jezzerbear’s wordpress (here) where he recived a review on some chocolate and it made me think of some amazing stuff we tried here somewhat recently:   Here’s my thoughts on: Vegemite – Now in Chocolate Form!!

Happiness in a Jar!!

Happiness in a Jar!!

Anyone who knows me or my siblings (Benaud, Hicks, Chloe and Sheedie) and my Mum know we LOVE our Vegemite!  Especially for breakfast of hot buttery toast 1st thing in the morning.   It’s like a little piece of happiness in your belly.

My brothers Benaud and Hicks enjoying their breakfast of Vegemite on toast.

My brothers Benaud and Hicks enjoying their breakfast of Vegemite on toast.

So imagine our surprise when a few months ago there were rumours circulating around the internet that one of our most like Chocolate factories – Cadbury were releasing some new flavours, one of which included Vegemite chocolate!
It was a case of…it’s not true until we see it for ourselves, we won’t hold out breaths… the vegemite block of chocolate was due to hit the stores on the 1st June 2015 so we had a while to wait and see.        Then shopping Day on the 15th May arrived and Mum came home and presented me with this…

*gasp* the rumors are true!!

*gasp* the rumors are true!!

It was real!!!
Here is our much loved Vegemite combined in Cadbury milk chocolate and teamed with caramel!   Wow!!

Now don’t go racing off to buy a block expecting to devour it in one hit….oh no no no no.   Not a wise thing to do.  Vegemite is a very STRONG flavour and if your not used to it, it’s most likely going to make you screw your face up and look like you have just licked a feline’s posterior! For the untrained palette, it is much recommended to try this delicious stuff spread very thinly on hot buttery toast, and keep having it that way until you get used to the taste to try spreading it a little thicker etc.
So with that in mind lets get back to the chocolate!!     Mum and I LOVED it!   It was something like a Salted Caramel flavour but the taste of vegemite was very present in each little square you ate.     We recommend only having 4 little squares of this chocolate at a time otherwise the taste does become overpowering.   But all good things in moderation, right!

So yes, I can quite safely say in our house of 8…only 2 didn’t like the chocolate….1 because chocolate is poisonous to cats and number 2 because Dad…erm….I mean mystery household person, doesn’t like Vegemite at all and would actually choose to lick pre-mentioned posterior….though when I said I’d pay to see that I was threatened with being posted to Timbuktu, no return!!

Cadbury’s Vegemite Chocolate – Winner in my books!!

PJ and Pizza Party

What a blast we had here on the 30th May!    It was a combined Birthday celebration for our cousin Candy Quirkybear (who’s birthday is the 30th May), our cousin Seaspray Quirkybear (who’s birthday is on the 1st June) and for Nanna (who’s birthday is the 2nd June)!

The cousins, my brother and me nibbling some yummy mixed nuts as we wait for our friends to arrive and join the party.

It was a great idea to have everyone dress up in their PJ’s, funny slippers if they had some to wear and run amok with blankies and pillows etc.   Our friends from Ballarat even made the trip up to join in on the festivities as well.

Pizza time!! - L to R: Candy, Gerb, Kewpie, Sparkles, Benaud and Seaspray, all waiting to get a slice of pizza!

Mum even took the time to decorate the table like a bed and picked some colours and owls that Nanna likes as well to be used as decorations also.     But the best bit about the night was the Pizza!!   We got it from the BEST pizza place in town called Bonnie and Clydes, so tasty with all our fave toppings.

Such an awesome time!

Saying goodbye is so hard to do.

Well that’s all from me for now, stay tunned for upcoming posts as I have Nanna’s birthday coming this Saturday and then my next big adventure starts on the 17th June! So excited!   What are you looking forward to?
